Grief Was Never Meant to Be Buried

Some grief doesn’t fade with time
because time was never the problem.

You tell yourself it’s been long enough.
That you should be over it by now.
That it’s old.

But memory doesn’t work on deadlines.

You’re not meant to forget what mattered to you.
Why would you?
Why would something once held close
be expected to disappear
just because years passed?

Some memories aren’t meant to be buried.
They’re meant to be carried.

Like holding someone you loved deeply —
the hug doesn’t end,
it just becomes quieter.

The memory may surface on an ordinary day.
While doing chores.
Decades later.

And that doesn’t mean anything went wrong.

You can carry the memory
and still build a present.
You can honour what mattered
without letting it take over your life.

Your present self needs you too.

So if something resurfaces after all this time,
don’t rush to silence it.

You’re allowed to grieve —
even if it has been years.
